My top 5 Favs of the Week!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend.  I am a little late with this posting, however I thought I would need to include the weekends activities in here.  Starting off with Barn Doors.  As you know my boyfriend and I are designing our new custom built home.  I wanted every feature to be hand selected and included to capture my vision, of course on budget and cost effective.  I immediately knew that I wanted to include a barn door in my home.  With our home not being too large, it couldn’t be used for a mud room or a pantry.  So the next best spot I thought of would be for or master bedroom, en-suite.  This past Friday we went out to a farm in Scottland, Ont.  Here this farmer uses reclaimed barn wood and creates beautiful pieces such as barn doors, tables, benches even mirrors!  I couldn’t believe how well made everything was still with that rustic edge intact.  Here were some of my favorite pieces.

Check out his site for more..  http://reclaimedbarnboard.jimdo.com

Well mine does look a little plain but pretty close! See below for the recipe, they were so easy to make and a nice alternative to regular tacos.

Dining Tables!!  Trying to find the perfect pieces to bring your design vision to life has been my favorite part of buying a home.  We are currently on the hunt for dining tables.  Two so far have caught our attention, the grey wash table from Urban Barn and the more natural colored wood from Structube.  I paired them both with our hardwood floors.  What do you think?

My Top 5 Favs of the Week*

Firstly I would like to jump right in with my purchase of the week from ALDO SHOES.

1. These RED GLADIATOR heels, how amazing??!? They were on sale for $59.99, I just love them.  Paired them with a basic leather short and loose white T. Add some bling and you’re set.  You can also wear these with some denim shorts or a boho inspired dress would like great as well.

2. INDIGO CHAPTERS- Another one of my Fav’s for home décor!  Shopping for our future home I grabbed these goodies on sale! These decorative letters have a burnished gold finish that adds beauty to any room.  L for Lilly and N for Nick, adding that personal touch to any space.  Cant forget the we love grabbed this say grace print that will make a nice addition for the kitchen once framed!

3. I love Ikea you can find several gems in such a massive store.  This storage unit I grabbed for $90.00 at IKEA for my design office in our home.  With a little face lift and my personal touches, this is the inspiration for the final outcome.  I love gold!!!! Of course all of the bright colors, and femininity of it.

4. Barn Doors- I need to do a full posting on just barn doors in the near future.  I love the rustic look and feel of adding a slide in barn door for some character.  They can be a pricey option over your regular doors, however looking through Kijiji can get you some great deals!

5. DIY Alert!!! I love the fact that you can purchase anything at any price and revamp into something so much more.  Some of these simple DIY’s were my favorite.

*Spray Paint a mason jar and dip the ends in gold glitter for a flower vase.

*Re use old bottles by adding some colored washi tape.

*String Light Garlands- rattan balls these are so simple to make and look beautiful.  My sister from @montessorispot made these and they turned out amazing.

The Boldness of Color

Hello Happy Thursday everyone!! For some reason this week I felt the need for a big burst of color, going through old design magazines while lounging by the pool had me inspired.  I have been very into neutrals lately, but you can never go wrong with some color.

Check out some of my favorite looks from some older design magazine issues.

Use neon for the element of surprise. The unexpected bright green glass chandelier in this elegant dining room absolutely electrifies the room in more ways than one.  Having the ceiling painted enhances the bright green instead of the ceiling being a basic white tint.

Throw in a BOLD Stair case runner.  Having a black and white color palette for your home allows you to be creative and throw any color from the color wheel into your color scheme.

04-hbx-1940s-style-foyer-gambrel-0214-xln

Crazy for Peacock, Teal, Turquois and Sea foam.  These rooms are very risk and a lot of people may think it is too much, I think they are fantastic!  Look at that Metallic Peacock motif wallpaper in the powder room.  Painting the door a bright aqua compliments the metallic perfectly.

02-hbx-andy-warhol-silkscreen-print-gambrel-0214-xln     09-hbx-peacock-feather-wallpaper-redd-0214-xln

Color in a BIG dose! Sometimes you get your full dose of color in one piece of furniture. This oversized couch not only fulfills the color requirement but could potentially fit the whole family, plus visitors.  What an awesome theatre room!! I want it.

7 Uses for Wooden Pallets in the Home

Hey guys 🙂 Happy Wednesday.

This week I thought I would share some inspirational photos using wood pallets.  Wooden elements have been on trend when it comes to home décor for some time now.  Some people may think its too industrial or only meant for lofts.  This couldn’t be more far from the truth.  Re using old wooden pallets can be very inexpensive and you can get pretty creative when using them.  I came across some great photos of different ways to use them. Enjoy.

1.  Attach some wheels from your local hardware store and a glass table top, this makes a stunning coffee table!

w paellet

2. This patio table is made from wood pallets, adds some rustic appeal outdoors.

w pallete 4

3. You can always find cushions everywhere.  Why not make your own lounge sofa using wood pallets.  I just love this idea!

palette 2

4. Easily create shelves for a washroom or an office.

palette 3

5. DIY Decorative clock using a wood pallet!

palette 5

6. This was one of my favorites. Create a decorative wall using wooden pallets. This instantly adds character to this bland powder room.

palette 6

7. Great way to display photos and to add some texture to a space.

w pallette 5

Well I know these photos have given me some great inspiration on how to add some rustic elements using wood pallets.  You don’t always have to break the bank when adding to the look of your home this can be done inexpensively and be a fun DIY project!

Have a great week.

My Top 5 Favs!- FASHION FRIDAYS-

Hi guys, happy Friday!! I haven’t done my top 5 favs of the week in some time.  So this time I thought It would be fashion inspired since the weather has just been so beautiful!  Now that I am done exams I have been catching my self dipping into my shopping addiction, uh oh!  No really I have been pretty good since the man came in to the picture 😛 I still do have a weakness for online shopping once and a while, during my searches these had to make my top 5 fav’s of the week!

1. The Handbag- I just cant get enough of FLORALS!! This beauty the ‘ ADELAIDE ‘ is from ALDO Shoes and goes for only $60.00.  The second option is a clutch for the evenings I love the contrast of mixed prints with the floral and stripes.  This one is called the ‘FENNIMORE’ and is on sale for $29.98.   Freshen up an outfit with a little fun in your handbags.  I think they are such a great way to make any outfit pop!

26_adelaide_59_6clutch

2. SABO SKIRT has done it again for me.  This time with Rompers!! It is romper season and I found colorful fun and unique rompers.  All three of these range from $50- $70.

Who doesn’t love Peonies?  I adore this print and the fit of this first Romper.  Pineapple craze! This boho-flowy romper can look great on any body shape.  For me its the backing- dropped fringe detail, so feminine.  Last but not least the tartan overall, this is perfect for a relaxing weekend at the cottage.  Its relaxed fit and y back detail still will have you looking trendy yet comfortable.

romper                             romper 2                romper 3

3.  Anybody that knows me knows I have a bikini addiction, it probably doesn’t help that I get emails daily from Victoria Secret luring me in!  I cant help it I probably have over 40 bikinis and yet still feel the need that I need more, I have a problem.  It was so hard to choose my favorites but I had to narrow them down.

Floral Print and cheetah?  The best combination, what makes this suit even better is that you can choose the style of the bottoms to mix and match. The corset back is also amazing, also it is on sale!!  I normally don’t go for the one piece bathing suit, this one is so chic and such a statement piece with its color blocking how could you not.  Pair this with a large floppy hat and oversized sunnies.  Everyone needs a classic black bikini why not dive in to the retro look with a high wasted bottom.  This trend started one-two summers ago, but only recently has started to become more popular. Sexy Brazilian cut bottoms, this has been my weakness since my friend first started bringing them back for me from Portugal and then Brazil! So fun and flirty mix and match them with any top!

4. ZARA Shoes- I will take one in each color please! I am so in love with these shoes I think I might ordered them over the weekend.  Leather and oversized buckle ❤ Which color to choose though White or the Black?

zara shoes 1zara 2

5. Nasty Gal finds are my favorite.  The Kimono look can be so easily styled, weather it be dressing up simple shorts and T for that extra edge.  Or over top a straight legged tailored trouser and blouse for the office. These pieces are so transitional they can even be a cover for a beach day over your bikini!

Gallery Walls

Hi Everyone, i hope you are having a great week 🙂

A few weeks ago I started to work on a family gallery wall for my moms house.  She had a perfect area in her hall way that was bare and tons of family photos with no place for them.  There are lots of options and styling when it comes to gallery walls.  They can cover an entire wall not knowing where it began or it can be subtle, classic and symmetrical.  Frames on a wall don’t have to match, black, silver, wood, gold and painted frames of various shapes and sizes can all be beautifully added to the same wall.

My mom however,  wanted to keep it simple and classic to go with the style of her home.   What I like to do is pre mark my area of where my frames will be displayed.  Especially if someone is looking for a crisp clean look, this can be easily done with paper scissors and tape!

paper n sciss

You can play around with the layout and see what visually balances best.  From there you can plan out the size frames and photos you will be displaying.

paper sciss

Once you have your photos printed, I like to arrange them on the floor and play with the layout again first before I start nailing holes in the walls.  Once you have an arrangement that you like and will fit nicely on your wall you can start placing them in the frames and begin displaying!

photofam

And they’re up! To me there is nothing more important than family and I know my mom feels the same way.  She absolutely adores her family gallery wall.

DSC_1283

It was hard to capture on camera without the glare from the outside light.   The last frame on the right isn’t the right size we are still on the hunt for one, so that the last two at the bottom will be exact.   All we need now is to sand down her cherry wood credenza and re stain to update.  A little accessories and another great addition to Casa C Complete, that will have to be on  another posting 🙂

Hope you enjoyed!

Rustic Backyard Oasis

My sister recently asked me if I could help her out with her backyard, she didn’t know what else to do to it.  She already had this stunning gazebo and added white linen drapes which contributed to that casual feel she wanted to have in her back yard.  I asked her what she wanted to see in the gazebo what style she liked.  She then replied rustic simple and light, she didn’t really want to bring in any colors.

Here are her before photos…

The space already looked great from the start so there wasn’t too much to add.  I loved that the gazebo had a ‘wall’ from the fence I seen this as great use to hang some sort of decorative pieces/art.

backyard backyard2 backayrd3 backyard4

She made this with twigs that were coming over from the neighbors tree! So creative and was my jumping off point for the rustic aspect of the design.

backyard 5

We went for a walk DT Galt (Cambridge) there are tons of décor shops with unique pieces.  Such as the art of home I just love this place! We found such an original deer head coo-coo clock there that would be perfect for a cottage project I will be working on.  That’s a whole other post itself…clearly I get distracted easily.

afterback6       afterback15

We aren’t fully done but I thought I would share where we are at right now with the décor! We purchased some Texas Long Horn pieces for the fence wall from Willow House, these are a Steven and Chris piece from their line.  I was loving everything in this store!

afterback8    afterback7

We added a chandelier for some lighting and glam!  This was purchased at Urban Barn, in Cambridge.  Hung it with the rustic twig wreath that my sister had made.  We still need to tuck the wiring away.

afterback4

Other touches such as pillows, table tray, outdoor candle, tray for over the gas fireplace with some wood.  All purchased from good old Home sense, can never go wrong there.

The Partially Complete After…

afterbackafterback2afterback3afterback12afterback5  afterback13

We eventually will be moving this ottoman with the rustic chair and outdoor candle in-between two long chairs she has on her stamped concrete patio.  Will be replacing it with this wine barrel end table, golden lantern, some fresh soft pastel colored flowers and an outdoor area rug to complete!  I know she said no color but i think i might just be able to convince her to add some warmth and pop with a crazy rug!

I cant wait for this,  I will update once everything is fully complete 🙂

Hope you enjoyed~ Have a fabulous Weekend 🙂

Designer Feature

Hello Everyone I hope your week is going fantastic!! So this week I wanted to do a little Interior Designer Feature and to shine some light on a fabulous local designer from Cambridge, ON- Jodi Ball from JODI BALL DESIGN.  She truly is an inspiration and has the great gift and eye for design and decorating.

jodi

I first met Jodi when she was working as a Mortgage Agent for Dominion Lending Centers in an office I used to work at.  When she started to work there she took over her space and did a total re decorating job on her in house office.  She had painters come in and brought in all her own office furniture and accessories, it was definitely the best looking office in the building!  From there on I had always heard that her house was absolutely stunning, but had never actually seen it and all the detailing she had put into it.  Jodi then began to realize that she may have a designer eye and huge gift for this industry.  She was even getting free samples in the mail of paint decks and materials.  If this wasn’t a sign she should be designing I don’t know what is.

Others started to take notice of her amazing gift and she was featured in “Our Homes Magazine”.  Jodi purchased an older century home with her husband DT Galt, and they revamped the entire home right down to the studs.  Expanded the size and value of the home with an addition on the back side of the house.   The colors she chose and exterior finishes are exquisite and very complimentary.  As soon as you step foot on her front porch you can already tell that this house will be stunning.  The gorgeous grand architectural features from large moldings, window casings and door trims.

The interior is truly decorated to a T, there isn’t one aspect that she has missed.  Any decorative material/surface you can think of to add into a home she has included.  From custom wall paneling, wainscoting, tray ceilings, Large Crown Moldings the list goes on.  I am so excited to share with you her beautiful home designed by her.  Of course the designer in her is now ready for a new project, and after all her hard work they have now decided that they want to sell and Renovate another home for her and her family.  The home is listed with my brother in law Cliff Rego and his team, you can follow him on FB or twitter @cliffregoteam MLS®#: 1492402 for more details.

Here is her house tour 🙂 Enjoy!

I told you it was stunning 🙂  I hope you enjoyed this weeks blog posting.

Again such a great job by Jodi Ball Design, I wish her nothing but continued success with her business and new personal projects going forward.
